Project 2009
The Trust will be marking the centenary of the publication of the Webbs’ Minority Report to the Poor Law Commission, which had so much impact on the future welfare state and crucially stated that poverty was not the fault of the individual but the responsibility of the state, with a major report which will be published in the summer of 2009.
The Fabian Society have been commissioned by the Trust to carry out an in-depth review of measures taken by successive UK governments (since Beveridge) to alleviate poverty. The report will conclude what worked and what did not, and also advocate future policy.
There will be a number of events/conferences/seminars relating to this project between now and the end of 2009.
